Dr. Elissa Yukiko Weichbrodt

Key Note

Dr. Elissa Yukiko Weichbrodt is an associate professor of art and art history at Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia. Her research and teaching focus on modern and contemporary art, while looking for connections to medieval work. She believes that art can make us more human, and she is passionate about sharing art's capacity to engender attentiveness and empathy. She has published in scholarly venues on topics ranging from contemporary Black female photographers to patronage of Hawaiian landscape painting. Her first book, Redeeming Vision: Looking at and Learning from Art (Baker Academic 2023), offers a field guide for how Christians can be generative in their engagement with all kinds of art and visual culture. Elissa and her husband Noel live in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with their two teenage sons.
