Trained as a fine artist, I've always been fascinated by the nuances of light and color that photographs fail to capture. But I've also felt more at home in the realm of storytelling than in more conceptual art. My recent work attempts to navigate the middle ground between fine art and illustration. Creating clay and needle-felted maquettes allows me to create illustrations directly from life, in the studio or en plein air. The goal of my writing and painting isn't to create new worlds but to make our world feel new. Observing our natural world and finding ways to both reflect and re-shape that reality makes me all the more in awe of God's Creation. It's my hope that my work will lead readers and viewers to see their world anew with that same awe and wonder.
