Like Palm Groves

Lorena Long

Growing up in rural Oklahoma didn't offer much in the way of a fine arts education. Our town had one grocery store and not much else. I didn't go to museums or have mentors who could teach me how to curate a life as an artist. But after walking into an oil painting class when I was 10 years old, I knew I wanted to be one.

I believe that people were made in the image of God - a Divine Creator. Consequently, we each have the capacity and responsibility to create. My goal in creating is to wrestle honestly with my beliefs, ideas, and materials until art that is meaningful and worthwhile emerges. And when it does - when a painting comes to life with texture and honesty and imperfection—I hope it will stir hearts in the best sort of way.
